Taco & Burrito Palace (Halsted/Lincoln) (Chicago, IL)
Score: 9 / 10 Reviewed by: Meixner007 (Chicago, IL)
I've tried my fair share of places over the Chicagoland area and this one takes the cake. Located just north of Fullerton on Halsted this quaint burrito place offers up some of the finest mexican food I have ever had the pleasure of digesting. To quantify it a little better, when I was moving into the Lincoln Park area a year ago, I made sure I was within walking distance of this place.
Their burritos come in two sizes, regular and grande, and if you go the chirizo route a knife and fork are necessary. Texture wise, they are the 'crispier' version of the standard burrito-an absolute must. I have yet to try the chicken, because quite frankly, the carne asada is just that damn good. I've been going there for over 5 years and I have only ventured away from my original order once. That should be a testimonial to how good these can be. They offer both types of sauce (red and green) and can add a little kick to your burrito if you just ask.
There are a few minor reasos the Palace didn't recieve a '10' rating. Sometimes the burritos are night tightly wrapped...and well quite frankly, that's about it. I regularly eat here sober and drunk. I bring all my out of town friends here and they all leave with a reaction to someone watching 'The Usual Suspects' for the first time...WOW.
I was once fooled by another taco place just up the block and boy was it a mistake. As I think back on it I'm saddened because that's one less time that I've eaten at the palace.
