San Loco is right in the middle of everything in New York's ultra-hip Lower East Side. Head in on a sultry Thursday night, and the coolest of the cool will be lounging on the streets, loading their amplifiers into rusted vans, smoking hand-rolled cigarettes, and drinking sweaty cans of PBR. Loco's is open until four in the morning and delivers until two, which means the place is bustling at all hours.

Well, this place has already been reviewed and I pretty much agree on all counts. This particular San Loco location (there are a few) on Stanton St. in the Lower East Side is one of the five best late-night munchie spots in the whole city. And that's saying a LOT considering how many joints are open until 4am and beyond. The same heavily tattooed and pierced and strangely alluring woman has been working behind the counter for years and they are always playing some good punk rock music. And not any of that fake emo stuff on the radio-- I mean the real deal. Fittingly, their burritos have rock and roll names like "The Stairway to Heaven", "The Superunknown" and "Territorial Drippings". Okay, I made that last part up, but you get the idea.

As for the burritos, I always thought it was cool that they offer catfish burritos and tacos on the menu. That's impressive because fish tacos are so rare here that if you ask somebody "hey, where could I get a fish taco?", they'll probably look at you like you're wearing a wig made out of toilet paper and then have you burned for witchcraft. It's just not part of the culture.

So I ordered a catfish burrito-- yikes, Bad Idea Jeans. Believe me when I tell you there's a 90% chance that the catfish came from thawed out supermarket breaded fishsticks. I'm not kidding-- the fish packed all the flavor of crumbled drywall. Furthermore, their burritos are put together the same way as their nachos. They just throw the ingredients on top and wrap up your (tiny) burrito as fast as possible and hand it to you. The end result being that the bottom third of the burrito, in this case anyways, was nothing but sour cream and lettuce. The chipotle chicken nachos on the other hand are AWESOME though, go figure.
