Let me start by saying that Tito's has been legendary as long as I have been going to the west side of town, and that it is one of a handful of places in LA that always has a line. But, when I go to Tito's, it is to pick up a dozen or so of their shredded beef tacos for a bunch of friends. I've been going there for 20 years, and I've never ordered a burrito before. When I ordered "one all meat burrito" this afternoon, the lady said "OK, and how many tacos?".

Titos is one step above Taco Bell, most people buy their ground beef tacos in the same hard cardboard shell the big chains use. Campos is far superior, their sauces, which is how you define a Mexican restauurant, and their carnitas, kicks ass on Titos. Both are Anglified, titos far more, and bland. There is a great stand on Western just north of the 10 for authentic tacos, and Long Beach has SuperMex, the best sauce there is, for the Anglophiles, and La Ravanche on Anaheim for the real deal. SuperMex is the best chain by far, the owners cousin ripped him off in OC with the Happy Burrito, and Campos comes in third.

I actually found the burrito to be a better vessel for Tito's delicious shredded beef than the eponymous tacos. While I generally go for meal sized tubes of rice, beans, guac, and meat, the petite Tito's burrito (doesn't that have a nice ring to it?) stands on the strength of it's delicious spicy stewlike meat filling... though a little bit of cheese doesn't hurt.
And, the smaller size leaves room to try some other items on the menu.
One word of warning, the guacamole here is... strange. It's maybe more of an avocado sauce than anything, it's quite runny and doesn't have any particular flavor. I'm sure it has its fans but I'd recommend skipping it.
I hate admitting this as I know it brands me as an outsider who just doesn't 'get it', and I wish I did, but I honestly didn't enjoy the tacos much. Sure, the filling was great, but the shell was stiff to the point of being hard to eat. Maybe they'll grow on my over time, or maybe it's something you have to grow up with, but I'd rather have my beef wrapped in a flour tortilla.

Growing up on the west side of LA, Tito's was a part of my lifestyle until leaving for college. Now I live in SF with a plethora of taqueria choices, and I still miss my Tito's Tacos. I, too, have never opted for a burrito. Why would you when their hard shell tacos are so devine? When I head down to see the 'rents for Thanksgiving, you'd better believe there's a trip to Tito's involved!

I agree with everything you said! I've never had a burrito at Tito's either, and I've been going there for 36 years. Hubby has been going there since Tito's was located on the corner, instead of where it is now.
And, yes, they never ask you what you want...they always say, "Do you want cheese or not on your tacos, and how many?"
With that said, my husband sometimes orders a burrito at Tito's (after all, he's been going there for over 40 years, you have to try something else) and he loves them. I would imagine their burritos are as good as their tacos, but why would you want a burrito at Tito's, when you can get the world's best taco there?
