First visit: Steak burrito and chicken taco. Steak was dried out and reheated, while the chicken had a weird coating of greasiness on it. Overall, not that good. Salsa was barely passable. I didn't dig this place.
After several reviews touting the quality of this place, I tried it again. Again, subpar burrito and tacos. I'd go down the street to Donna Naty's and get an al pastor tostada from there. That place is clean and doesn't skimp.

Great tacos and burritos. Skirt steak is always fresh.. open kitchen area. Friendly service. They also have a great torta.. i forget what it is called, but it is a ham and milanesa torta. Heart attack on a bun, but damn tasty. Tacos are also very good from here.

hmmm...maybe I should have taken Rosco's advice and tried the place down the street because I was definitely disappointed. The marinated carrots with peppers and cauliflower were nice. The chips and salsa were solid. The service was fine. I liked the atmosphere. The food...disappointing. There was something dry and crusty in my beans that lead to suspect that last weeks beans were just mixed in with today's. The meat was subpar with nothing really to distinguish it. My girlfriend ordered a Milanesa Torta and nearly drowned while trying to retrieve her torta from that vat of sour cream that it was submerged in. I would not go back here unless you broke my legs and dropped me off right at the front door. You would probably have to break my arms too or I might try to pull my hobbled body down the street to La Pasadita.

Taco Veloz is another great place on Chicago Ave. The burritos are not so big as Tecalitlan, but the seedy little restaurant they come out of somehow makes them more authentico... Also a great salsa verde... and little baggie of peppers, carrots, cauliflower, etc. in oil. That's the good ish.
