Well my visits to la pasadita were not as pleasant as everyone else, i mean ive been going there for 15 years and the food has always been good, but my recent visits were horrible, the food was good, i ordered a burrito, as i was halfway done, i saw what looked like a tan colored piece of rubber, i pulled it out to find out it was actually a bloody bandaid, i started vomiting, it was f...in nasty totally nasty, i just wanted to post this review and let everyone in on my wonderful meal at la pasadita....., needless to say i have not went back there since.

La Pasadita is a rather interesting establishment, so I had to make a few trips down to truly take it in. You see, they have three locations -- but they're all on the same block, right next to each other. Two of them are strictly joints, and the third is a restaurant. What's the difference between a joint and a restaurant, you ask? Well, there are no waiters at a joint, you order at a counter and simply pop a squat or take your food to go. I strictly review joints in my search, since they're generally quicker in service and cheaper (no tips, good for my poor-college-student self). Nevertheless, I ate at both the restaurant and taqueria version of La Pasadita, to get the whole picture. First was the restaurant, since it was the only place I could get a vegetarian burrito. It's worth noting that not only do the joints not offer a veggie burrito, they also do not offer guacamole. Anyway, my first burrito was nothing special. It featured all the usual ingredients, but just didn't go the extra mile. The guacamole was alright, but far from being a true contender. At first glance, La Pasadita wasn't too high in my book. My second experience brought it up quite a bit, when I visited one of the two lower-class joints. Here, I got a burrito more my style. This wasn't served on a plate, this was a well-wrapped burrito complete with the outer edge of tin-foil. Their choice of ingredients, however, were not exactly my style. You get cilantro and onions, cheese, hot sauce, and a lot of meat. No rice, no beans, no pico de gallo, no lettuce, no gauc. This was a bare-bones display, but damn if it wasn't tasty in its simplicity. Their cilantro and onion blend was impeccably delectable, the key to the tastiness. Unfortunately, my choice of meat, barbacoa, was not the best. While the meat itself was delicious, it was compounded by a constant companion of meat fat. The amount of fatty globs was a little overwhelming, so I couldn't enjoy the burrito entirely. Nevertheless, the taste was great, and I would go back to try their highly regarded carne asada. If you're a carnivore, I recommend trying out one of the taquerias.

I go often for the carne asada burrito at the north one on the west side of ashland. It is a simple burrito that feeds the meat eater in all men and women. Add a little cheese and tomato then drizzle or pour on the green sauce, really simple and great. If you are looking for a Mission style burrito, this is not the place. However, if you just want a tortilla with meat, have at it. The carne is the best in town.

Not only is their Carne Asada outstanding, they really know how to do a veggie burrito too. Their salsas come in three varieties. Green, Black, and fresh pica. I love the black!

This place is well known for their tacos, but their regular, large and ULTIMATE burritos are something to see.

carne asada, onions and cilantro, and some queso and you're in for a treat!

Great burritos - 'nuff said. Okay, the steak was tasty, and it had a decent balance of, when taking a bite, veggies, beans and meat; salsa was good too, though I would like it a bit more piquant. Oh, and a 0.5 off for being a bit sloppy and not wrapped up tight (like an El Famous or El Faro/Farol). Went for the Ultimate Burrito two trips ago, and never got anything else since (leftovers were still good too). Co-workers are STILL shocked to see this burrito...

I don't usually believe the hype, but everything I heard about this place was true. And I've eaten at all three locations. The burritos are packed, and I mean PACKED, with the best asada I've ever tasted. Throw in a little cilantro and onion with some salsa verde squirted on each bite, and you're in business. Simple and delicious. These are the burritos by which all others should be judged. Pure, simple, and as close to perfect as you can get. These are not Mission-style burritos. These are packed meat logs. God I want one right now.

This great place has incredible carne asada Burritos indeed. They actually have a $10 burrito which can feed a family. However, truth be told, they are known in Chicago as one of the 'top five' places to enjoy a taco. These Taco's are so filled with flavour that you actually have a 'Big O' while eating one. I cannot lie. These incredibly soft masa pillows are filled to the brim with delectable seasoned charry skirt steak, cilantro, onion and parsley. Dollop some of the three salsa's (red, green and black) atop these wafers of love, and smile like the frito bandito! The service and attitude at all 3 joints is always fabulous, even at 5am.

what hasn't been said about la pasadita? it's the best damned taqueria in the midwest, IMHO. all three of 'em should be thought of as one restaurant composed of three units. my preference for burritos straight up to go, is the little unit on the east side of ashland- the steak just seems to be a little tastier, the tortillas toasted a little more.

however, there's a lot to be said for the big unit on the west side of the street- the one farthest south. that black salsa is fricking great, and you cannot get it at the other two.

the other unit, to the north of the big one, has i think the best horchata- served ice cold.

so there ya go. la pasadita, the holy trinity of taquerias.

I am ashamed to admit that whilst I have heard the praises of la pasadita for years, I had never actually sampled the fare until recently. And I was amazed. I went to the northwesternmost one, which from what I have gathered, is the best one for the carne asada burrito. (I think because that is about all there is on the menu.) I didn't want to give this place a 10... because I have already given a 10 before and I don't want to seem melodramatic... But, it was quite simply, heaven in a tortilla. The simplicity of carne asada, onions, cilantro, cheese and salsa verde would be hard to replicate at other places.

And to the guy that didn't like this place... this might come as a surprise to you, but you don't actually like actual Mexican food.

What's funny about the 1 sort of negative review about this place is coming from a guy who ONLY raves about burrito places in Lincoln Park. I don't know about you, but I'd trust someone from San Diego who likes this place more than someone who's getting their Mexican food from the whitest neighborhood in Chicago. Seriously, it's like going to McDonald's and thinking their Asian salad is amazing Chinese take-out.

The place is definitely not where you go for service, but if you like a burrito chock full of meat. This is it. The "super-burrito" is the closest thing to a mission burrito you can get in Chicago and by that I mean they use Spanish rice (yellow rice with peas and carrots), guacomole, sour cream, grilled cilantro with onions, and they have salsa picante, mole sauce, and salsa verde to pick from. The regular burrito is the meat and you have to get it with cilantro and onions or you're cheating yourself.

The carne asada is definitely some of the best in the city and if you eat red meat, take advantage of it. If you're feeling kind of different, get the barbacoa (goat) or the lengua (beef tongue) - just like Southern CA as the other reviewers are pointing out. Of the 3 locations, only 1 has all sorts of ingredients and that would be this one. The other 2 locations only have pork and beef ingredients.

This place is consistently rated amongst the best burrito joints in the city - and for good reason. Case and point, it has three restaurants on the same block; two next to eachother and one across the street. Their carne asada is some of the tastiest in the city. With cheese or without it's a no lose situation. They also load it up with your choice of meat, and have some extremely fresh ingredients. No disrespect, but if you don't enjoy this place you don't enjoy burritos. Highly recommended.

Detracting factors are tough to come by. The one that comes off the top of my mind is that it's a bit out of the way, but damnit, it's worth it.

Wow, take a $7 cab to eat a $5 burrito? Sheer genius!

La Pasadita is freaking awesome. Good steak, fresh onions and cilantro, and cheese. Who cares if it falls apart? Maybe its "shell" wasn't "toasted" enough or the junior size wasn't available the night somebody else tried La Pasadita, but my 1st visit was enough to hook me for good...

I'm sorry to say that I don't share the enthusiasm of some of these other reviewers. The ingredients seem to be of poor quality, and you get a loosely wrapped burrito that merely falls apart. This place should only be considered if you're: a) already in the immediate area, b) you're extremely hungry, c) you're extremely drunk, d) enough time has elapsed since your last meal there that the wretchedness of it is not fresh in your memory. Otherwise, just hop a $7 cab ride over to Jaimito's on Sheffield and Clybourn.

This past saturday my wife and I were walking around the Pasadita neighborhood looking at apartments. It was about 3 o'clock we were hungry for a little snack. Stupidly we decided Pasadita would make for a good afternoon "snack". Seeing as we had declared this would be a snack and not a true meal, we shared a Super w/ carne asada. Pretty solid, though I actually felt like it was had too much meat in it. Weird thing to say, I know. Anyway I really liked the fact that it wasn't sloppy (eventhough the thing was stuffed with ingredients). The salsa selection was top notch, and tasted very fresh.

I will go back, without my wife, and attempt to devour a Super Al Pastor. Might put a few beers in me beforehand.

This is where you will find the best burrito in the midwest. As a native of San Diego, I have been searching for this place for years. So many mediocre burritos have been laid to waste before I found my salvation. La Pasadita are masters of minimalism. They have three locations on the same block, each one more basic than the other. The carne asada is perfect. No beans, lettuce or any other crap. Just meat! This is the primal burrito that savages lust for. The service and atmosphere are irrelevant.
