I've spent half of my life in and around Hollywood, and have noticed Yuca's, but have never eaten there. Since someone thought it warranted a 10, I figured I had to try it. Since they said the "Cochinita Pibil" was "heaven on earth" I figured I should start with that.

This place sucks. It got so hyped up by the NY Times and then by that jerk, McSteamy on Oprah, but this is NOT a good burrito place. I will say that the asada is pretty solid, but my burrito looked like it had been somehow shrunken to novelty mini-size and then run over by a truck. No joke, it looked like a taco bell burrito. If you just HAVE to go rock the asada tacos, you won't be disappointed. Just know ahead of time that this is not a restaurant...it's a shack that makes Benito's look like a palace. You can "enjoy" your shitty food sitting in uncomfortable rusty chairs while the lurkers in line look over your shoulder at every bite. Enjoy...this place sucks.

Whenever arriving at LAX, my first stop in LA is Yuca's. I've known about this place for over 10 years (even before it's New York Times article) and I look for good Mexican food all over the U.S. and nothing surpasses Yuca's. I've tried Mexican food in hispanic neighborhoods located in metro areas of Phoenix, New York City, Detroit, Kansas City, Houston, Miami, and elsewhere in L.A. and none compare!
Park in the lot by the tiny "shack", order from the sweethearts, Dora or Mama, the go pick up a drink of your choice at the liquor store that shares the parking lot. Return to sit under the blue tarpauline tent and relax in the afternoon breeze.
The cochinita pibil is heaven on earth. Fresh, savory, mouth-watering. A close second is carnitas or carne asada. No extra salsa or sauce is needed except maybe a LITTLE green hot sauce.
You won't need anything else except maybe MORE FOOD, and plans to return for lunch tomorrow.
I have frozen and taken this food home on the plane to Michigan it is SO PHENOMENAL.
I'm still searching this land for better...

I work in Hollywood and I always hear people raving about Yuca's so I was stoked to finally go there. I'm not going to lie to you I was disapointed. I respect them for being around for so long and the fact that they don't have a cash register just some happy old lady figuring out your change on a paper plate. But the burrito had no kick. Its hard to disapoint me when it comes to burritos but but I have to say, "Yuca, we have to part ways".

It is hard to beat the flavor of the carnitas at Yuca's or of my second favorite the carne asada. The only possible fault might be the size. The burritos are not the gargantuan creations usually found in the bay area so be prepared to order two or maybe a taco on the side. The upside of this is that you could sample more than one of their succulent creations. Unfortunatly no extensive salsa bar as the place is the size of a shoebox and there is only outdoor seating available. Vegetarians forget it. The beans, though delicious, are lard laden.
