I like this place. It's the only "real" burrito place in town. Tons of mexicans waiting for work up and down the street all day, and the place caters to them. There's something about the salsa that tastes different then any other salsa in town, and thats why I go there instead of other places that are alot closer to my house.
My only gripe is that their regular burrito comes with cheese, but no where on the menu does it mention this. I've had to have them remake burritos a couple of times before I learned to just ask for a regular without cheese.

Cotija is located on the west side of Petaluma and is one of the best taquerias, if not the best, in town. Wannabe critics need not attempt to deride this unparalled establishment. It is located at the site of an old gas station, complete with canopy and dispensers, which add to the outdoor patio ambience. But the magic happens inside the kitchen. Your first taqueria test should be the salsa, which at Cotija is superb to the point of addiction. The shrimp fajita burrito is my favorite dish, although not on the menu, they will make it for about $6. I believe it is the same recipe as the camorones rancheros, but wrapped up in a burrito, and it is mouth-watering, as well as an excellent cure for a hangover. As far as claims that the restaurant is "gross", this is simply not true, I have been there many times and never seen anything questionable. The Mexican jukebox and mural of the town of Cotija add a nice touch to this burrito gem of Petaluma. Don't forget to tip!

Upon first entering Cotija, ones thought is "ewww", but then you realize that they did pass their health and safety inspection so its good to go. Anyways, this place makes Mexican food. Not American Mexican, not Tex-Mex, but Mexican Food. Very Cheaply priced, as well as very delicious, I tried a Super Beef Burrito for $4.00, and it was larger than most $6-7 burritos in Petaluma. Salsa tastes great, you can also eat the burrito with your hands or a fork, because there is no salsa on top. I give it an 8.5, because once you realize you are there too eat and not look at things, its a great place

This place is simply gross.
When I ordered my burrito and saw a roach scurry across the floor, I was kind of nervous.
Now, don't get me wrong, I've eaten in shady places all over the world and a little roach wouldn't necessisarily convince me that it's gross (it is fairly open to the outside), but this place just felt nasty. I tried the carne asada burrito and it was bad quality meat.
PS. If you drive a truck, forget this place. You'll be swarmed by people looking for work as soon as you pull up.
