I tried Nico's on my latest trip to San Diego. Although I can't echo the glowing reviews that led me there, but I did enjoy my burrito very much. I'd rank it as well above average, and I'd definitely hit it up again to go deeper into the menu if I were in the neighborhood. The only negative of the experience was that the location was a bit of a dive. I would have liked to hang out a bit longer than I did, but the lack of drink refills and the generally dinginess of the location prompted me to do more of an eat and run. Perhaps I'll try one of the other locations next time.

Nico's. I worked near here for over a year, and even with JV's almost across the street, Nicos became my favorite. JV's is a little too americanized to be a great place, and although they have quality, Nicos has authenticity. Now, I can only rate on Carne Asada Burritos, since That's all I eat. But Nicos hit the mark on the carne asada front. The burritos are just slightly on the small size, not too small, but I usually find myself wanting a little more by the end. Also, the fountain drinks only come in small.

Co workers also told me that the Breakfast burritos and Carnitas are good. Overall, Nicos is a place I would drive to anytime I'm in the area.

With so many great mexican joints closeby (JV's and Santanas) this place often gets overlooked.

I went in the other day to eat and was greated by a very friendly couple. (I would imagine it was the owners) In looking at the menu, it seems that they have created several new burritos that I have never even seen before, and I tried one out. I have to say, I'm hooked. I forgot the name of this burrito, but it had Carne Asada, enchillada sauce, rice, beans and cheese in a huge flour tortilla and it rocked. It wasn't the size of JV's HUGE burritos, but it was tasty and filling. Great salsa topped of this nice dining experience.

Also, if you like carrots, they were the best I have ever tasted. Just the right amount of spice and cooked to perfection. They're not free but a good sized bag was like $.50 or $1.

    I'll be back.

Try the Cheese Quesadilla and Cheese Enchiladas. They hit the spot!! The hot sause is awesome too. It just has it's own taste that makes you come back for more!! I recommend it!! This is another SD locals treasure!!! They also sell orange soda, strawberry soda, and grape soda in a glass bottle. Some times that really hits the spot, especailly with the spicy food!
