I'm eating a carne asada burrito combo from taco express right now. I called in my order so I just walked in and got my food. the customer service there is always the best... the previous reviews did't (i don't think) mention the owners' son (i presume), but you can add him to the good customer service list. I don;t normlly eat carne asada burritos, because I've already eaten enough to last me a lifetime, but I do eat a lot of mexican food, and taco express is a 10/10. Always good. The owners take pride in thier shop. They must be rich.

I use to work in Downtown San Diego (401 West "A" Street, the big glass building) right across the street from Taco Express. I was a little worried when I walk in but the smell of tasty ingredients made my mouth water. I've had the Carnitas burrito and the bean burrito (on Friday during lent). This is a perfect size burrito for lunch. The meat is crisp and very flavorful. The beans are cooked to perfection. The staff’s great and they always remember you and your order and how you like it. I don’t know how they remember because this place is always packed. This is a place that makes you watch the clock in your office for lunchtime so you can dig into their great food. If you are in downtown San Diego, you must check this place out.

Well, now I can add one of the best establishments in San Diego to The wall of fame! I was on my way north (of the W) in the growing area of North Downtown, (at Corner of State and Ash) on my way to La Playitos. I saw a small building that looked older and more apt to be in downtown L.A. or T.J. Besides the name and older brick appearance on the outside, the crowd at 11:15 pre-lunch and still busy, was a dead give-a-way. The lunch crowd is greeted by a very nice (and probably very smart business man, thanking everyone and greeting most of his customers by name) owner, who makes sure everyone is happy with their food. I grabbed a Carnitas burrito. Priced under $4.00 is always good, but the quality moist pork with just enough crispness from a flame roasted pork. Great ingredients and great service. I HAD to go there again, now this time I tried the Mole, a bit more expensive, 6.50 or so, it provided 2 tacos before driving away and a good size flour one for dinner; as the owner mentioned it's from a family recipe 90+ years in the family. Spicy enough for me, but sweet and succulent for my two daughters 1 and 3. Pieces of tender chicken, some no larger than a cashew, holding the spices and flavors of the multi ingredients of the family jewels glowing like a chipolte and saying "EAT ME". Served to go w/ a side of fresh guac. and salsa, some plain rice (nothing to write home over w/ carrots some days, sometimes w/out) and some good beans. I got a few corn tortillas (tasted super fresh) and a large flour tortilla, one that puffs when heated. Some typical salsa, but honestly, I don't want to hide the awsome flavor, a must if anywhere by the 5 and front street, get off go south to ASH go to State street, you'll see it next to the parking lot. They have a nice patio, chainlinked in, but you'll be focused on the good food.
