La Cumbre is a bright white building on the north side of San Mateo's downtown center. It appears large, but is actually quite small on the inside. It is decorated with many placards and reviews, all with the common theme of how it is superior to every other taqueria. Most of these reviews and `awards' are years out of date, and many refer to the SF location. I don't know if the SF is different, but this one in San Mateo is no where near worthy of `best taqueria'

I've been eating at the La Cumbre in SF and SM for many years. During my vegeterian years (late 90's) I would come here for the "grilled veggie" burrito. It's still one of my favorite vegetarian burritos - sauteed peppers and onions with some cashews thrown in - yum. When I started eating meat again the very first thing I had was a pollo asado burrito with habenero salsa at La Cumbre. The salsa verde that comes with the chips is hot and delicious. This place is a favorite of my family's too.

Best burrito I have ever had. Absolutely perfect. Chicken and steak both taste excellent. Burrito holds together well, isn't dripping wet. Rice and beans have a good flavor as well. They offer free chips and salsa. Chips aren't the best, but who is really going to a burrito joint for the chips anyways?
I have not been able to find a place better than La Cumbre yet.

If I had to be Sisyphus, I'd have one request - when I do get that rock to the top of the hill and have to watch it rolling back down, can I please please please have a Nerga Modela and a Super Pollo Asado burrito before heading back down? If the answer was yes, I'd probably take that gig. Serious yumminess.
