After all the good reviews of Los Charros, i had to give them a try. Sure enough, these are some excellent burritos.

My partner and I got up the courage to make a bold move, after which we felt the need to celebrate. I told him there was a great taqueria I had been eager to try out, and he was all for it. In this spirit we went to Mountain View to experience the best ... which, some legends say, is a super carnitas from Los Charros.

Thinking about Los Charros gives me the same feelings that most people get when they see old Saturday Evening Post covers, except that in my fantasies the ice-skating children are holding burritos. This is one of my favorite taquerias in the world; it's within walking distance of my parents' house, and I've eaten more Charros burritos over the last ten years than any other flavor.

This was the best burrito I found in the Bay Area during my 5 years there. Sure you can choose from a wide variety of tortillas (whole wheat, spinach, white etc.), sure the prices are fantastic, sure the staff is nice, but really it all comes down to the amazing amount of taste that is packed into one of those super burritos. I recommend it without sour cream, but either way, you're in for a treat. I'll just add that I'm a little picky about the ratio of ingredients (especially lettuce to beans to rice to cheese ratios) and this is one of the few places that gets it absolutely right. And by the way, the pico de gallo salsa at the table is great for adding to the burrito before each bite. So in summary, Los Charros is Spanish for deliciousness (well okay, Mexican Cowboys, but you know what I mean).

I lived in the South Bay for about five years--one of which was spent in Mountain View--and something I've really missed since I've been gone (food-wise) is the sheer number of quality burrito places concentrated in the area. That's why when I was recently back for job-search related activities, I decided I had to stop by my favorite place to get a burrito.

The burritos at Charros are top-notch. The ingredients are put together in the perfect proportions--not too wet but not too dry. The tortilla is grilled so that it is nice and flaky. And the burrito always comes out piping hot. When you combine that with the chips, salsa, and pico de gallo, it becomes an extremely satisfying meal. The other food is quite good too, but it's the burritos together with the service/ambiance that make Charros great.

The staff is really laidback and friendly, especially once they recognize you as a regular. For example, at least once a week, I would stop by and get a super burrito to go. This would usually ring up to something like $5.03, but if I only had $5 and no change, the brother who I usually saw behind the register would just take the $5 and tell me not to worry about the minor shortfall. Even though that doesn't seem like a big deal, I was always really pleased that I didn't have to break a $1 to pay the 3 cents. I'm sure it was also convenient for them, but it was the attitude of the whole transaction that made the difference.

I also really like the whole ordering setup. There's no need to stand in line and direct the making of the burrito, a la Subway or Chipotle. You just get what you want by its name. If you need special requests or removals, you can ask for that when you're ordering. You can take-out or eat in, and if you do decide to eat in, it's a much nicer setting than in many other taquerias (which sometimes don't even have the dine-in option).

When I walked into Charros on my recent visit, I immediately got a friendly greeting from familiar faces. I sat down and one of the guys came by and said, "You don't need a menu, right?" I guess they still remembered me! I decided to go with my old favorite: a pollo asado super burrito. Let me tell you, that was the best burrito I'd had in a year.

Basically, if you have a hankering for a burrito and are anywhere close to Mountain View, do yourself a favor and go pay a visit to Charros. You won't regret it.

I lived in the South Bay for five years and unfortunately found this gem only in my last year.

Now that I live a block from the Mission District in SF, you'd think I could find plent of able replacements. Well, you'd be wrong. The burritos are great - maybe not the best anywhere in the bay area, but some of the best. I love the chorizo. On burritos alone, the place gets an 8 or 9. What is it about the place that launches it up into rarefied air? A perfect 10? To get the true Los Charros experience, you have to dine there.

There are the customers - an eclectic mix of Mexican, yuppie, collegial, and whatever else. There's the obligatory soccer (futbol) game on TV. There's the guy with a mustache that stretches for miles. The waitress who might not know your name, but will give you a wink of familiarity. And the decor and demeanor is laid back, even for a Taqueria.

The prices are pretty cheap too, as long as you stick to the burritos. The tacos and tostadas are great as well. Not just a place for burritos.

Went there based on the Burritophile review, tried carnitas (pork), carne (beef) asada and pollo (chicken) asada super and jumbo (plus salad and tomatoes) burritos, very decent and pretty cheap

Good consistency, nice overall

I wish they had hotter salsa

The place has a nice laid back taqueria decor, bright yellow walls with some cool memorabilia and painting. Come to think of it, service is really good for a taqueria, this is a nice sit down place

I think the fajitas and other taco type stuff look pretty safe

Oh yeah had some of their Mexican soda: Mundet Sidral. Was good but it tasted a bit like apple cider
